heARTs for ART works to increase awareness of pediatric cancer, raise funds so that “other kids don’t get sick” and to provide support to families with children that are currently fighting cancer
About heARTs for ART
heARTs for ART focuses on Samantha’s passion for art and her love of family, friends and schoolmates. Samantha was a positive, fun, artistic girl who loved all types of music. The past events have reflected these interests and have included; live music, dance performances, art lessons, craft activities, games and a silent auction which included donations from local artists.
heARTs for ART was created by friends and family of Samantha Schmidt to show her how much she was loved and to honor her passion for art. As a 10 year Samantha was diagnosed with Myelodysplasia syndrome (MDS) and then Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Samantha took part by naming the event and when asked where the proceeds should go she asked that they donate to fighting leukemia so “other kids don’t get sick”. Unfortunately, Samantha passed away on January 30th, 2012 just days before the event.
After the first event, heARTs for ART has continued as an annual fund raising event, organized by a group of volunteers wanting to help fight pediatric leukemia.
In late 2015 heARTs for ART became a 501(c)3 and the 2016 event was the first event operated with the non-profit designation.
